The Review
Technically outside Independent Cheltenham territory, but some places are too good not to feature.
If you’re looking for a great pub near Cheltenham that feels a cut above the usual, The New Inn in Cirencester is well worth knowing about. Warm, stylish and genuinely memorable for the food, this is exactly the kind of place that makes you plan a return visit before you’ve even paid the bill.
What We Ordered
Disclaimer: DON’T COME FOR ME about these pictures, I didn’t think I would be using them for anything at the time of taking them, but now here we are. I promise some more appealing imagery going forward.
If you are from The New Inn and are viewing, I can only apologise.
Jamón Croquettes
I’m a fiend for croquettes, so standards are high. These absolutely delivered. Crisp on the outside, rich and gooey in the middle, with peppers that balanced the whole dish perfectly. Easily one of the highlights of the meal.

Burrata & Beetroot Salad
The only dish we could have done without. Not bad by any means, but a little bland compared with everything else on the table. With stronger dishes elsewhere, this one felt slightly surplus.
It was very pretty though.

Big Stack Smashed Patty Burger
William called this one of the best burgers he’s had in the Cheltenham area, which is serious praise considering we rate places like Beefy Boys and Woozy Pig highly. Juicy, indulgent and exactly what a great pub burger should be.
Pork Cheeks with Parsnip Purée
Rich, tender and packed with flavour. Another standout dish. The parsnip purée was silky and delicious — good enough that it ended up doubling as a dip for the burger chips.

Drinks
We washed it all down with beers from Deya Brewery, a welcome local touch and always a strong choice.
Atmosphere & Service
The New Inn gets the pub atmosphere exactly right. Fires lit, cosy rooms, busy without feeling chaotic, and polished enough to feel like a treat while still keeping real pub character.
It happened to be the first sunny day of the year, so with two fires on it was slightly warm inside, but that’s hardly a complaint. There are outside tables that would be ideal in warmer weather.
If you’re planning to visit, it definitely feels like somewhere worth booking in advance.

Is The New Inn Cirencester Dog Friendly?
Yes – genuinely dog friendly.
We called ahead as we had Mabel with us (7-month-old puppy) and were kindly given a quieter corner table. A water bowl arrived straight away, and there were other dogs in too.
If you’re searching for a dog friendly pub in Cirencester, this is a strong option.
Prices & Value
Our total bill came to around £70 including drinks, which felt fair for the quality of the food and overall experience.
Final Thoughts
The New Inn Cirencester gets the balance right: excellent food, proper pub atmosphere, warm service and enough personality to stand out.
We’d probably skip the burrata next time, but that’s minor in the grand scheme of what was a brilliant meal.
If you’re in Cheltenham and fancy somewhere different for a weekend lunch, date night or pub trip, this is an easy recommendation.
Cheltenham Spoon Verdict
Book it. Order the croquettes. Bring the dog.
